As cooler weather arrives, so do crunchy leaves, charming sweaters, and many pumpkin flavored packages at your local Trader Joe’s. But if the Trader Joe’s life with its small portions and high prices are weighing on your mind and wallet, then click your heels because Aldi’s got everything you need.
The European-owned company offers a myriad of great fall selections for your pantry. With low prices you can’t beat, and a high European quality (Europe’s strict regulations make sure of this), whether you’re looking for a pumpkin carb to snack on, or you’re in need of a dish to feed your family.
Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, or a nearby co-op have the local and artisanal artistry. While Aldi may look unassuming on the outside, with the quarter cart nuisance and bringing your own shopping bags, Aldi’s focus on product quality and concern to meet consumer expectations make up for its lack of cutesy marketing.
Christa Norris, a manager at an Aldi in Des Moines, Iowa, says Aldi provides a better shopping experience than Trader Joe’s because of their many locations, affordability, and new products.
“The product, the variety and the price … You get more bang for your buck here,” says Norris.
But cost is not the only thing that separates Aldi from other markets.
“We have a way bigger customer base (at Aldi than Trader Joe’s),” says Norris. “We offer a lot of variety, and our Aldi Finds aisle is what is our biggest (selling point). And we’re making room for new products every week. A whole new aisle, every single week, for our customers.”

Skyler Quinteros, an Aldi employee for the past 10 years, knows to keep an eye out for all the new products. “Anything labeled ‘Aldi Finds’ is like the ad special for that week,” says Quinteros. “If there's a very high demand across multiple different districts, [Aldi corporate] will bring it back. If that continues, then they will make it a store line product.”
Fresh fall items are especially beloved.
“People love new product lines,” says Norris. “And Aldi has a fall product line, a winter, a Christmas and Halloween product line. We have a line for every season and every occasion.”
Next time you feel a burning desire to grab an expensive pick-me-up from Trader Joe’s, consider Aldi as a cheaper and quality driven alternative, that won’t hurt your debit card.
